A finely decorated Satsuma earthenware vase of baluster form, Meiji Period Japan, circa 1890. Densely painted in the classic Satsuma palette with figures in a garden scene, gilt highlights throughout. Signed on base with Shimazu clan mon and artist signature. Height: 32 cm. Minor gilt wear, no chips or cracks.
