A large square chenille needlework floral panel, c. 1950s, worked in raised tufted blooms across a dark ground and set in an ebonized gilt-slip frame. - Framed textile needlework picture, floral spray subject - Period: c. 1950s, confirmed of the period - Chenille and wool yarns on a dark cotton ground; wood frame with gilt inner slip, glazed - Measures 24 in high x 24 in wide x 2.5 in deep; approx. 2.2 lb - Good condition; old wear to the frame, textile bright - Bold three-dimensional pile that reads well from across a room Handworked chenille pictures of this type were a mid-century parlour craft, and surviving examples in this scale with the pile still standing are less common than the small ones. The dark ground makes the reds, creams and golds unusually vivid, and the square format suits a stair wall or a grouping of textiles. It hangs ready on its original wire. Condition is Good: the needlework retains strong colour and texture, while the frame shows old rubbing and minor losses to the gilt and ebonized finish consistent with age.
